My thoughts about, and reasons for, using Flock over other browsers

Q: Why Flock?

A: To me, there of several features of Flock that are extremely appealing…

  • Blog Post Editor
  • RSS News Feeds Reader
  • Media Stream - access/update your favorite photos at Flickr or Photobucket, and at YouTube
  • My World
  • Integration with social bookmarking systems (e.g. de.licio.us, ma.gnolia)
  • Web Clipboard
    • Use the Web Clipboard for Instant Saving and Sharing
    • Even with loading Firefox with extensions, you do not get the integration that Flock offers. For example, to blog from Firefox you can use the ScribeFire extension. And to save webclips you can you can use another extension. And in this scenerio you will not be able to combine the use of a blog extension with a web clip extension, say, to copy from one to the other. But with Flock’s built-in Blog editor and Flock’s built-in Web Clipboard tool, you can copy from the web clips to the blog editor with ease.

  • Built-in spell checker
  • Plus, the same great features that Firefox has:
    • Customizable, Personalize - buttons on toolbars can be re-arranged, toolbars using View»Toolbars»Customize…” For example.
    • Search Engine customization
  • And many other features…

I have given a lot of feedback, and encourage others to do so also,
simply use: Help»Give Feedback, or click on the blue fly icon (Send
Feedback) to the right of the URL/location field.

BTW, I wrote Instructions on how to download and start using Flock…

Kind Regards,

To Do: Check out (RTM) Remember The Milk…

Posted by erich13 on January 8, 2008

As I had ToDos in several places (e.g. ToDo List gadget in iGoogle, MyStickies and Google Notebooks), I had been looking for a single ToDo list management solution. One of the qualities I wanted was to be able to use twitter to add to the todo list. And then along came “How to Use a Todo List to Make 2008 Your Best Year Ever” (from http://www.lifehack.org) …. that mentions, among other things, Remember The Milk (RTM)…Turns out that RTM integrates with gmail via an extension, and can be accessed via twitter. Want to see it in action?

Too Cool!

My Favorite Add-Ons»

  • * Extensions in Firefox 1.5; Add-Ons in Firefox 2+
  • 1Works only with Firefox
  • 2 Some work Session Management extensions work with Firefox 1.5, with Flock 0.7.X, not with Firefox 2.0, and Firefox 2.0 has built-in sessionmanager.
  • 3 works with Flock, but not with Firefox.
  • 4 tips from the author: What I do though is go to preferences/invocation and set it to Toolbar mode, as I mentioned below. However what I didn’t mention is why: It means the menu does not come up when selecting text! ONLY when you hit the enter key after you select text. Try it :-) It’s much less obtrusive. I recommend toolbar mode: hit enter and it hoists the selection to the toolbar, then use they keyboard shortcuts
  • 5 Works with Firefox 1.5, not with 2.x
  • 6 Works with Firefox 2.x, not with 1.5
  • 7 - Groowe Search Toolbar bundles toolbar functions for many search engines, shopping sites, download sites, including Google toolbar, Yahoo, Amazon, EBay, Ask, Msn, Download.com, Wikipedia, Digg, del.icio.us and others
  • 8 Can you scroll back in Jabberbar? Can you enlarge Jabberbar?
