Netscape Navigator - Official End of Support on March 1, 2008 - Netscape suggests Flock or Firefox.
Q: Why Flock?
A: To me, there of several features of Flock that are extremely appealing…
- Blog Post Editor
- RSS News Feeds Reader
- Media Stream - access/update your favorite photos at Flickr or Photobucket, and at YouTube
- My World
- Integration with social bookmarking systems (e.g. de.licio.us, ma.gnolia)
- Web Clipboard
- “Use the Web Clipboard for Instant Saving and Sharing“
- Even with loading Firefox with extensions, you do not get the integration that Flock offers. For example, to blog from Firefox you can use the ScribeFire extension. And to save webclips you can you can use another extension. And in this scenerio you will not be able to combine the use of a blog extension with a web clip extension, say, to copy from one to the other. But with Flock’s built-in Blog editor and Flock’s built-in Web Clipboard tool, you can copy from the web clips to the blog editor with ease.
- Built-in spell checker
- Plus, the same great features that Firefox has:
- Customizable, Personalize - buttons on toolbars can be re-arranged, toolbars using View»Toolbars»Customize…” For example.
- Search Engine customization
- And many other features…
I have given a lot of feedback, and encourage others to do so also, simply use: Help»Give Feedback, or click on the blue fly icon (Send Feedback) to the right of the URL/location field.

“What is Flock? …
Flock is a consumer Internet business which has developed a free, next
generation web browser. The web, and the way people engage online, has
evolved dramatically over the past decade. But web browsers - the
application that fundamentally enables online experiences and services
across ones’ connected life - have not kept pace.
Flock is focused on fundamentally evolving
the browser, bringing a refreshing new approach to how people use and
participate on the web and simplifying social and web-based
applications by bringing them one step closer to the user and
integrating them directly into the browser.
When using Flock, people can easily
discover, access, create and share videos, photos, blogs, feeds and
comments across social communities, media providers, and popular
websites.“

“Previously, the Netscape Team recommended that Netscape browser users adopt Firefox as their next web browser. We would also like to suggest Flock as another alternative to the Netscape web browser. Flock is a web browser that combines all of the advantages of Firefox with the addition of social integration. If you are looking for your next browser and are interested in Firefox with social integration, give Flock a try.”, http://blog.netscape.com/2008/01/16/netscape-recommends-flock-too/

Web 2.0»* by Eric Herberholz»

About Web 2.0, in
- “Web 2.0 is a trend in World Wide Web technology, and web design, a second generation of web-based communities and hosted services such as social-networking sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies, which aim to facilitate creativity, collaboration, and sharing among users. The term became notable after the first O’Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference in 2004.[2][3] Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to any technical specifications, but to changes in the ways software developers and end-users use webs. According to Tim O’Reilly: “Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the Internet as platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform.”“, Wikipedia

My observations: At the very core, Web 2.0 has a trait of serendipity. The trick is to manage this serendipity, either mentally and/or physically. Personally, I need to touch and feel things (kenetic learner), so I manage it physically with my system (which remains in my head, but may be described in writing, someday soon hopefull).

What is a “Web Presence“? To me, it is what the world sees about you. Can your Web Presence be managed? Most blogs and other social sites have a Profile feature. And some sites allow for easy sharing of your various accounts/sites. For example Jaiuku’s Web Feeds features, is a virtual profile. Jaiku describes this feature as “Your presence stream is currently displaying updates from these feeds”. These feeds are easy to manage. Also, Facebook has Mini-feeds. A quick google search (for “edit facebook mini-feeds”) reveals “How to Adjust Your Facebook Mini-Feed“, “Learning from the Facebook Mini-Feed Disaster“, “And you thought Facebook mini-feeds were bad“, Facebook Yields to Angry Users | Compiler from Wired.com, Facebook Subscribers Protest Site’s News Feeds — privacy, social - and VICTORY! Facebook gives users privacy options… An Open Letter from Mark Zuckerberg“, We really messed this one up. When we launched News Feed and Mini-Feed we were trying to provide you with a stream of information about your social world. Instead, we did a bad job of explaining what the new features were and an even worse job of giving you control of them. I’d like to try to correct those errors now.”

- Determine the purpose of your blog. At the very least, it can be used for your personal knowledge base, journal, etc (Why I Blog.)
- Make some choices:
- Choose an editor application1. For example, because you can’t always just depend upon a blog’s editor, to have all the features you want/like/need, etc.
- Choose a blog, from various blog providers2. Try out several, and then choose one that appeals to you (e.g. for ease of managment, appearance, etc.)
- (optional) Choose a photo hosting provider3, so that you can post pictures there, and then link to them from your blog.
- (optional) Choose means of earning money4
- Starting Blogging.
- Enjoy.
1 Editor applications (e.g. Flock’s Blog tool, Google Docs, VIM, SeaMonkey Composer, Outlook Mail Message)
2 Blog Providers (e.g. 360.yahoo.com, Bloglines, blogsome, Blogger, flickr, jaiku, LiveJournal, MySpace, Opera, Performancing, twitter, Vox, WebRing, Windows.Live.Spaces, WordPress)
3 Photo providers (flickr, GooglePhotos, photobucket, webshots).
4 Earning Money providers. For example: www.livingroom.org.au/photolog has links to many sites.
